"You don't take a photograph, you make it"
--Ansel Adams
I have always wanted to do something creative that I could share with others that would bring happiness and might be treasured.  With photography I have found that.
I got my start taking photos at the first "Splash Dog" event we took our 4 month old Lab, Maxx, to in July of 2006.  I was just using our little Canon G6 Powershot.  Nothing special, just taking some photos.  The next day my wife’s boss, Dan Koukol, Roseville Criminal Defense Attorney and an extraordinary photographer, saw my photos and said, “Howie’s got a good eye, I’d like him to borrow this Nikon D100 and see what he can do with it”.  With the next set of photos, he said, “I think he’s ready for the next camera!!” and got me started with an even better camera.  Dan then worked with me to help me perfect my skill not only with the camera but with post-processing and workflow.  He opened doors and opportunities that I never dreamed existed.

I can NEVER express enough gratitude or admiration to Dan for all his kindness, generosity and support.  Whatever photographic success I have had, or have in the future, would never have been mine had it not been for Dan Koukol.  I hope one day I can be as good a photographer as he is, and that I can do for others what he has done for me.

As a result of what began as a simple point-and-shoot photo in June 2006, I have had the pleasure of having my photos published in books and magazines all over the world.
